Interesting Facts -

Ezekiel Hawes' grandfather, also named Ezekiel, fought on the Continental line in the American Revolution. The younger Zeke fought in the Civil War and was wounded at Sharpsburg, Md. He returned to duty and was wounded again and captured at Chancellorsville, Va. He was paroled and returned to duty prior to April 1864.  He was a POW belonging to the Army of Northern Virginia, and surrendered with Gen. Robert E. Lee's army at Appomattox Court House, Va. on April 9, 1865.
