Interesting Facts -

Prior to the War Between The States, Abijah Hollingsworth Skipper served as Manager of Elections for Horry District and Election Polls in 1841, 1843, 1851 and 1859. During the War, in addition to his military service with the S.C. State Reserves, he served on several Horry District boards and commissions, including the Soldiers Board of Relief. In 1868 he was elected sheriff of Horry County, a postion that he held until 1876. He was elected to the S.C. House of Representatives in 1878 and served until 1880. His home was located on the southeast corner of Laurel Street and Sixth Avenue in Conway.
