According to a family history, Mayham Vereen joined the Confederacy at the latter part of the war and was stationed at Georgetown for a short time. He never saw any combat. The story was told that he went home on leave and over stayed his time; but on the way back he developed a rash and when he got back to camp, his commanding officer sent him back home. The war ended before he got well.
