Bladen County Wills
In the name of God "Amen"
I, Josiah Lewis Sr. of Bladen County in the State of North Carolina, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory blessed be God, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die make and ordain this my last Will and Testament as follows that is to say principally and first of all I resign my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it, my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors hoping through the merits of my blessed savior Jesus Christ to have a glorious resurrection at the last day.
And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased Almighty God to bless me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
Impremis:
It is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Joshua one shilling sterling to him and his heirs forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Silvia one shilling sterling to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann one shilling sterling to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Lucy one shilling sterling to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Aaron one shilling sterling to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Richard one shilling sterling to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Moses one shilling sterling to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto each and every one of my daughter Sarah's children on shilling sterling to them their heirs forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary my lodging bed with all the furniture belonging to said bed to her and her heirs forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Darrum one shilling sterling to him his heirs and assigns forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mariam one shilling sterling to her and her heirs forever.
- Item - I give and bequeath unto my grand son Aaron Lewis all the remaining part of my property to him his heirs and assigns forever.
Lastly - I do hereby appoint ordain and constitute my aforesaid grand son Aaron Lewis to be my true and lawful Executor of this my last will and Testament and no other revoking and disannulling all other wills by me made allowing and ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the thirty first day of March in year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight.
